Plastic Bags

No, this is not a speech on environment consciousness... (Not a bad idea, that one)

Daddy and me brought down an old suitcase today. He was searching for some long lost documents. And I was looking at the plastic bags they're all packed in.

After a while, the bags start to become more important than the documents they hold. They represent long lost places you know still exist, probably using bags with the same design. Places you will probably never see again.

The "Madras Handloom" shop in the corner of the market where your mother just had to go to get those soft towels.

"Tata Textiles" who for years had the slogan "Bright and Gay, Night and Day" inscribed on his signboard before realising what it meant.

"Dongarsidas" the shop that sold everything and yet nothing...

"Aruna Store" who sold you your first pen, your first water colours. Remember the old man who could talk about metal vs plastic sharperners? Man, he was passtionate about stationery!

Places represented by plastic bags. Bags we carried for convenience that we now cling to out of sheer nostalgia. It's nice... I don't want all plastic bags to be banned!
